USB-C Fiber Repeater, 10Gbps and 10K Display
USB 3.2 Gen 2 | DP Alt Mode | 20W USB PD | FireNEX™-U4F-DP
FireNEX™-U4F-DP is a USB-C fiber optic repeater that carries USB 3.2 Gen 2 data and DisplayPort Alt Mode video over single-mode fiber. For hosts equipped with USB4 or Thunderbolt™ USB-C ports, it extends up to 10Gbps data and up to 10K video to a Remote Unit located far from the host computer—ideal for Pro AV, computer vision, VR, and other applications where equipment must be placed at a distance.
The Remote Unit features a single USB-C port that combines 10Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2 data, DisplayPort 1.4 video via DP Alt Mode, and up to 20W USB Power Delivery, so a connected device receives data, video, and power through one cable. FireNEX™-U4F-DP extends USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gbps) up to 300m, and USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5Gbps) and DisplayPort Alt Mode video up to 700m. Fiber optic transmission preserves signal integrity over long distances and provides EMI immunity along the fiber link.
Backward compatible with USB 3.0 and USB 2.0/1.1 peripherals and supported on Windows, macOS, and Ubuntu, FireNEX™-U4F-DP integrates easily into existing systems. Screw-locking USB-C ports and built-in mounting holes keep installations secure.
Host Compatibility Note: The Local Unit must connect to a USB4 or Thunderbolt™ USB-C host port. Do not connect it to a USB 3.2 host port (including USB 3.2 Gen 2 and Gen 2x2). Learn how to check your USB-C host port .

FAQ
Q: What is the maximum extension range that the FireNEX™-U4F-DP supports?
A: FireNEX™-U4F-DP supports USB 3.2 Gen 2 data at up to 10Gbps over distances up to 300 meters, and USB 3.2 Gen 1 data at up to 5Gbps over distances up to 700 meters. DisplayPort Alt Mode video supports extension up to 700 meters.
Q: Will FireNEX™-U4F-DP work with a USB-C host port that supports only USB 3.2?
A: No. The Local Unit requires a USB-C host port supporting USB4 or Thunderbolt™ 3, 4, or 5. USB-C host ports limited to USB 3.2, including USB 3.2 Gen 2x2, are not supported. This requirement applies only to the host connection; the Remote Unit supports USB 3.2 and USB 2.0/1.1 peripherals.

Q: Does FireNEX™-U4F-DP support USB Power Delivery (PD)?
A: Yes. The Remote Unit’s downstream USB-C port supplies up to 20W of USB PD power (5V/3A, 9V/2A, 12V/1.66A, 20V/1A). This allows a connected USB-C device to receive data, video, and power through a single cable, depending on the device’s capabilities.
Q: Does FireNEX™-U4F-DP support DisplayPort (DP) Alt Mode?
A: Yes. The Remote Unit’s USB-C port supports DisplayPort 1.4 via DP Alt Mode, with video resolutions up to 10K at 60Hz. It supports both 2-lane and 4-lane DP Alt Mode configurations, automatically selecting the mode based on the connected device’s capabilities.
Q: Does FireNEX™-U4F-DP support DisplayPort Multi-Stream Transport (MST)?
A: No. FireNEX™-U4F-DP does not support DisplayPort MST, including monitor daisy-chaining through MST.
Q: Does FireNEX™-U4F-DP support HDCP?
A: Yes. FireNEX™-U4F-DP supports HDCP 2.2 for transmitting protected video content. Playback requires a compatible source, display, and software, with HDCP support throughout the connection.
Q: Is FireNEX™-U4F-DP backward compatible with USB 2.0?
A: Yes. FireNEX™-U4F-DP supports USB 2.0/1.1 peripherals, including microcontrollers, microphones, keyboards, and mice.
Q: How many USB hub tiers does FireNEX™-U4F-DP use?
A: FireNEX™-U4F-DP uses zero USB hub tiers, so the extension does not consume any of the available hub tiers in your USB connection path. This preserves those tiers for downstream USB hubs and devices with integrated hubs, giving you more flexibility when configuring your system.
Q: Does FireNEX™-U4F-DP require any drivers?
A: Yes. A driver is required for proper operation. On Windows, the driver is typically downloaded and installed automatically. For driver requirements and installation instructions for your operating system, refer to the user guide or contact Newnex.
Q: What fiber optic cable is required between the Local and Remote units?
A: OS2 single-mode fiber optic cable (9/125 µm) with duplex LC-LC connectors and A-to-B duplex polarity.
